A Dubai visa for Malawians is required before travel and is arranged online through a licensed sponsor. Malawi passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival at any UAE airport, so airlines flying out of Lilongwe and Blantyre will not issue a boarding pass without an approved e-visa. This page covers how much a visa from Malawi to Dubai costs, the documents and requirements, processing times, and how to apply in about ten minutes.
Everything below applies to tourist and visit visas. Work visas follow a different route and are covered briefly near the end.
Do Malawians Need a Visa for Dubai?
Yes. Malawi is not on the UAE's visa-free or visa-on-arrival list. A Dubai visa for Malawians is a pre-approved e-visa, and every Malawian citizen needs one, whatever the length of stay or purpose of the trip, including stopovers if you plan to leave the airport.
The UAE government does not issue visit visas directly to individuals. Your application must be filed by a UAE-based sponsor — a resident relative, a hotel, an airline, or a GDRFA-registered visa agency such as Emirates Dubai Visas. We file under our own establishment card, pay the government fee, and email you the approved visa.
Malawi Has No UAE Visa Office — What That Means
Many Malawian travellers search for a consulate or embassy to apply through. For a tourist visa, none is needed and none exists for this purpose. The UAE does not issue visit visas from diplomatic missions to walk-in applicants; the entire system runs through UAE-based sponsors and the GDRFA or ICP portals. That is true whether you are in Lilongwe, Blantyre, Mzuzu or abroad.
In practice, a Malawian applicant has three routes to a Dubai visa for Malawians: a licensed online visa agency (fastest and most common), the airline you are flying with (Ethiopian and Emirates offer this to ticketed passengers at a higher price), or a UAE resident relative who sponsors you directly. The visa issued is identical in every case.
How Much Is a Visa from Malawi to Dubai?
The Dubai visa for Malawians cost depends on how long you want to stay and whether you need single or multiple entry. All prices are in US dollars, per person, and match our homepage. The cheapest option is the 48-hour or 96-hour transit visa at $100; the standard 30 Days single-entry visa is $140.
| Visa type | Entry | Processing time | Stay validity | Visa validity | From |
|---|
| 14 Days Visa | Single | 1-2 days | 14 days | 60 days | $140 / person |
| 30 Days Visa | Single | 1-2 days | 30 days | 60 days | $140 / person |
| 30 Days Visa | Multiple | 2-3 days | 30 days | 60 days | $300 / person |
| 60 Days Visa | Single | 1-2 days | 60 days | 60 days | $450 / person |
| 60 Days Visa | Multiple | 2-3 days | 60 days | 60 days | $600 / person |
| 48 Hrs Visa | Single | 2-3 days | 48 hours | 14 days | $100 / person |
| 96 Hrs Visa | Single | 2-3 days | 96 hours | 14 days | $100 / person |
Your card converts the USD amount to Malawian kwacha at its own rate on the day of payment; we do not fix an MWK price because the rate moves daily. The price bundles the GDRFA government fee (non-refundable once submitted), our sponsorship and service fee, and travel insurance where the visa type requires it. Flights, hotels and any overstay fines are not included. Since February 2026 the UAE charges AED 50 per day of overstay with no grace period.
Need longer once you are in the UAE? The 30 Days Inside A2A Visa Extension is priced from $450 per person, processed in one to two days, and must be applied for before your current visa expires. Transit visas cannot be extended.
Flying sooner than planned? At checkout you can switch to Express (approval in 7-8 working hours) or Urgent (3-4 working hours). Both are priced on top of the standard fee and a specialist files the application the same day. Details on the Express and Urgent visa page.
Be careful with agents in Lilongwe or Blantyre quoting far below these figures. Government fees cannot be discounted, and a suspiciously cheap visa is often never filed. Verify any visa you receive on the GDRFA portal before you travel.
Dubai Visa Requirements for Malawian Citizens
To be eligible for a Dubai visa for Malawians through a sponsor, you need:
- A Malawian passport valid for at least six months from your planned entry date, with clear blank pages.
- No UAE immigration ban or unpaid overstay fines from a previous trip.
- A confirmed return or onward ticket.
- Proof of accommodation — a hotel booking, or a host's details if staying with a UAE resident.
- Applicants under 18 travelling without both parents may need a no-objection letter from the absent parent.
A bank statement is not always required for Malawian applicants, but for 60-day visas it is sometimes requested to show you can support yourself during the stay.
Documents Required for a Dubai Visa from Malawi
Upload clear colour scans or phone photos. Blurred or cropped passport pages are the single most common reason an application is sent back for correction.
- Passport bio page — the full page with all four corners visible.
- Passport-size photograph — plain background, taken within the last six months, face fully visible.
- Confirmed flight ticket — return or onward.
- Accommodation proof — hotel booking, or your host's Emirates ID copy and tenancy contract.
- Bank statement — last three months, only if requested for a 60-day visa.
- Residence permit — only if you are applying from outside Malawi.
You never send your physical passport anywhere. The visa is fully electronic and linked to your passport number. The full document checklist is on our how to apply page.
Dubai Visa for Malawians: Which Visa Type to Choose
30 Days Visa — Single or Multiple Entry
The standard choice for holidays, shopping and short family visits. Single entry ($140) suits a straight return home; multiple entry ($300) is for travellers who plan to leave the UAE and come back within the 60-day validity — a side trip to Oman, for example. The stay is counted from the day you land, not the day the visa is issued.
60 Days Visa — Single or Multiple Entry
Popular with Malawians visiting relatives working in the UAE and with business visitors attending Gulfood or GITEX. Single entry is $450; multiple entry is $600.
14 Days Visa
A short single-entry visa for a stopover stretched into a few days, or a single event. Same price as the 30-day single ($140), so most travellers choose the 30-day option unless the shorter validity suits them.
48-Hour and 96-Hour Transit Visas
For a layover in Dubai on the way to a third country, when you want to leave the airport. Both are $100, single entry, valid to enter within 14 days of issue, and cannot be extended. A confirmed onward ticket is required.
Not Covered on This Page
A Dubai work visa is sponsored by a UAE employer through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, not by a visa agency. If you have a job offer, your employer starts the process. Working on a visit visa is illegal and leads to a ban.
How to Apply for a Dubai Visa from Malawi Online
The process is fully online and takes about ten minutes. You can apply from Lilongwe, Blantyre, Mzuzu or anywhere with an internet connection.
- Select your nationality and country of residence, then choose your visa type.
- Fill in the application form and upload your documents.
- Choose Normal, Express or Urgent processing and pay securely by card.
- A visa specialist reviews the file against current entry rules before it is filed with GDRFA.
- Track the status online using the Emirates visa status page.
- Receive your e-visa by email. Print a copy and carry it with your passport.
Once approved, confirm whether your airline needs OK to Board. Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways and Emirates connections from Lilongwe commonly require it.
Processing Time for Malawian Applicants
Standard processing is one to two working days for single-entry visas and two to three working days for multiple-entry and transit visas, counted from the day GDRFA receives a complete file. Working days are Monday to Friday in the UAE.
Apply at least seven working days before departure, or use Express or Urgent if your dates are close. Approval and timing always rest with GDRFA, not with any agency.
Dubai Visa vs UAE Visa for Malawians
A UAE visa and a Dubai visa are the same kind of document with a different issuing authority. A visa sponsored by a Dubai-based company is issued by GDRFA Dubai. One sponsored from Abu Dhabi, Sharjah or another emirate is issued by the federal Identity and Citizenship Authority (ICP). Every visa we issue is valid across all seven emirates, so a Dubai-issued visa is fine for a trip to Abu Dhabi or Sharjah.
If you are landing at Dubai International and staying in Dubai, a GDRFA-issued visa keeps status checks, extensions and corrections in one system.
Why Malawian Dubai Visa Applications Get Rejected
Refusals of a Dubai visa for Malawians are uncommon when the file is complete. The issues we see most often:
- Passport validity under six months at the date of travel.
- Name mismatch between the passport and the application form.
- Previous overstay in the UAE with fines still unpaid.
- Poor-quality scans where the passport number or photo is unreadable.
- Wrong visa type — applying for a tourist visa when the real purpose is job hunting.
Specialist-checked, filed the same day. Every Dubai visa for Malawians we file comes with written USD pricing and no hidden charges.
